Hi!
Today, I've finished the upload of Frida data into OSM - the
"OSM-status" of Osnabrück, germany has switched from "virtually non
existant" to "almost there" in one day :-)))
Osnabrück can now be found in informationfreeway:
http://www.informationfreeway.org/?lat=52.268677003321734&lon=8.046990082365921&zoom=12&layers=B000F000
(it will take the usual few days until they will appear in the Mapnik
Layer).
Last week I've mailed with the people from Intevation (again) and friday
the Frida data was relicensed to CC-by-SA 2.0 (see:
http://intevation.de/pipermail/freegis-list/2007-September/003258.html),
so there was nothing left that held me from importing the data.
Stephan Holl from Intevation converted the data from shape to OSM format
already some time ago and also made this data available to me at the end
of this week (this saved me a lot of work, as I'm not very familiar with
the "classical GIS world").
As I got "all together", I took JOSM and put the data onto the OSM
server - well, actually it took a few hours to import all that ;-)
I've already solved a few of the problems - the motorways A1 and A30
were already existing in OSM so I had to merge them by hand. There's
some more work to be done to make the data "OSM conform", e.g. there are
some street names missing and probably a lot more work to be done.
You'll find more details about the things left to do under:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Frida
As I was born in Osnabrück, this development is pretty nice for me to
see. A "big thank you" goes to the Intevation team for providing the
Frida data and for the conversion into the OSM format.
So, to all mappers in Osnabrück, go for it and make Osnabrück and the
surroundings complete ;-)
Gruß ULFL
