If I disregard the area of the Netherlands where the ongoing AND
import had temporarily created many unwayed segments, we had about
620k unwayed segments the planet file two weeks ago, and 550k in last
week's planet.
It is good to see that people are fixing things in their local areas,
even though this is unlikely to bring the number down below 500k
(we'll get new numbers in a few hours I hope). But I think this is
uncritical - I believe there are many more or less remote areas were
tracks have been auto-converted into segments, often even without
filtering. Every now and then when working in rather untouched areas
(like parts of Iceland recently) I stumble across a cluster of these
segments. I assume that once someone really takes up work in such an
area, the first thing they will do is remove all that auto-generated
stuff and do it properly.
I agree with everyone that auto-generated ways should be tagged (I
propose "note=FIXME formerly unwayed segment" and "note=FIXME
formerly tagged segment"). Anything we get rectified before the
transition is good as it won't clutter history afterwards; but
there's no need to hold back the 0.5 switch because of unwayed segments.
Bye
Frederik
