or 10 officers would probably make no difference.

Deleting all pictures or quickly formating (=default) the memory card
just erases the entries in FAT table. Scanning the memory media with a
dedicated tool [1] in a card reader can recover all pictures that
haven't been overwritten. Did that several times after friends
accidentally formatted their SD cards and were smart enough to ask me
before filling the card with new photos. Buying new SD cards on
vacation is a viable option for preserving precious memories.

Don't tell that to officers though! If they do "erase" your memory
card remember to pretend to be sad! :)
