[OSM-talk] cannot enter new items in josm - bug?

Are you really sure you're on the latest JOSM release? Check the menu 
"Help -> About". The error you are describing has been fixed about a 
week ago. Get the latest version (Revision 775 as of writing this mail) 
here: http://josm.openstreetmap.de/
