[OSM-talk] Mapnik rendering in China broken?

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the correct list to post to, but it's the only OSM 
list that I'm a member of so I'll do it here anyway.

It seems that the rendering of chinese characters in Mapnik is broken. Every 
character is just rendered as an empty square, which indicates to me that 
some font is missing on the rendering server.  Here is an example:
