Hi,

Sven Anders and the other guys from the Hamburg OSM team have today
issued a press release
(http://www.openstreetmap.de/presse/2008-10-24-hamburg-stat.html) saying
that Hamburg is the first major German city to be complete. Hamburg
(pop. 1.3m) is the second-largest city in Germany.

The Hamburg team has acquired a street list from the city administration
and received permission to use this to check against OSM data. As of
today, there's a 99.8% match between OSM data and the official list - of
course there's still a lot of work to do, but for a press release this
is probably as near "complete" as you can get.

In the run-up to this milestone, the Hamburg team has investigated a
number of mismatches between spellings in OSM data and spellings on the
official list, and submitted a list of erroneous street signs to the
city. The administration have promptly ordered corrected signs and
intend to put them up as soon as delivered.

(I'm unsure whether these new signs will now have OSM attribution on
them ;-)

Bye
Frederik
