[OSM-talk] Own maps with hill shading and routes using mapnik

Hello,

[sorry for the first mail, it should have gone to talk-de ...]

A project, which I am pursuing since some weeks now is the rendering of own
maps using mapnik, which include contour lines, hill shading, bicycle and
hiking routes, and highway=path. This has cost me quite some time, and some
parts now only work because of lucky discoveries. So I started to write up
the relevant steps in an own wiki page, to ease this process for others who
might have similar interests:

Currently, the data preprocessing is described more or less completely.
Adaptations to the default mapnik styles will follow soon.

My work was inspired by the great progress of the cycle map (thanks a lot to
the authors!).

Feedback will be appreciated, of course. And maybe someone has some ideas,
how the maps can be further improved, or can even contribute some technique
or implementation ...

Yours,
Holger Schoener
