Yup.

What do you mean by "it allows nodes to be attached to individual
lanes"? Do you mean you don't think a lane should be represented by a
series of nodes?

Yeah. This seems common sense to me. A separation (even in paint) is a
physical separation, anyway. It is indeed still mapping what's on the
ground.
