No, you can't put in the equator as a *closed* way, since the API 
doesn't allow the way to wrap around on lon+-180°.
The largest possible closed way would have 4 nodes at (lat,lon) 
(90,-180) (90,180) (-90,180) (-90-180).
On the sphere that would just be a line along the 180° Meridian, in our 
data model it's a rectangle around the world.
