[OSM-talk] Merging changed osm nodes in JOSM

An idea:
You know how josm reacts to situations where 2 mappers were working at
the same time, and the user uploads the change; then the list of
conflicts are shown.

What if 1 mapper was saying that the road is 'bicycle=yes' and the
other mapper was adding in an alternate name & correcting the spelling
and adding 'ref=2'.

Is it possable to have an option of merging both changes? And if the
other user adjusted the road slightly? Would there be and option for
the user to merge both ways? -going the 1/2 way distance between both,
and adding the extra nodes for the way?

Has there been much work on the confict list?
