Widespread use might not accurately reflect overall usage. For
example I've just checked the local area for changes made by Xybot
using ITO Mapper and it found this one:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/26568786/history
I tagged it originally as landuse=wood, and based on discussion here
natural=wood would have been better as it is a small area of oak
woodland that has been left and had a park built around it. While I
don’t believe Xybot changes wood/forest/landuse/natural combinations
any more, it decided that landuse took precedence and I now have a
tiny forest in the middle of the local park (glad I checked, I'll
amend it now I've found it).
