Presumably this can work just as timelines do:

Does this script use the rendered tiles on the tileserver:

http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~ojw/bbox/?W=-18.261489&S=65.649100&E=-18.204711&N=65.672500&width=600&height=600

If so it could be used to produce images to embed in articles, the
resulting image could be a hash guaranteed to change if the
lat/lon/zoom/osm data changed.
