Hi Martin,

Thanks for registering for State of the Map!

To promote our conference we use several social networking sites (like
Facebook and LinkedIn). Hence the links in the top banner of the website.
People who have an account on these websites can share this event with their
personal network.

For the registration process we use a third party tool (eventbrite). We do
not have much control over these pages. Eventbrite also uses links to other
social websites to promote their tool and other events that are handled by
them.

We see it as a way of promoting the conference.

Hope this explains the presence of the facebook links. Just so you know: we
do *not* urge you to sign up for any of these social networking websites.
