Hi Arlindo,
Others have already given you good guidance.
If your interest is only in a small area, and you don't need to keep
your editing history, you might consider storing your data as simple
.osm files. Mapnik can render directly from .osm files with the
OsmPlugin.[1] This will remove your reliance on the rails port.
