I liked your first answer better:

> I think we're all better off if people would not map out of a sense of duty.  Stick to the places that you're interested in, and not only will you get the most benefit, but we'll get the best maps.

Stick to what your are interested in and the copyright issue becomes
non-relevant since you wouldn't be copying, and we end up with a
better map.
