Hey thanks, man, this is highly appreciated!
The stylesheet stuff could be good for "public use", to facilitate orientation
while zooming in.
If you could compress that SVG with bzip2 or 7z, I would run inkscape on it,
if this is possible:
inkscape --export-area-drawing --export-pdf=quakeregion.pdf quakeregion.svg

I guess for lowtech, mapnik is the choice (binary trees instead of linear
lists I presume, because of PostgreSQL searches or something).
