[OSM-talk] Mapping South East Haiti

Hi Vincent,

this is a very large area you're pointing at. Are you interested in the
complete area between PaP in the north and Jacmel in the south?

The satellite imagery you see in the background on
http://projekte.eiops.de/osm-matrix/
<http://projekte.eiops.de/osm-matrix/?zoom=12&lat=18.3032&lon=-72.45866&layers=B0FTFTFFFFFFFT>
is from one set of images only (I believe its from GeoEye,
either GeoEye1 or Ikonos).

In the south we have imagery provided by DigitalGlobe, here's an example:

http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit?lat=18.28266&lon=-72.51776&zoom=17&tileurl=http://maps.nypl.org/tilecache/1/dg_crisis/!/!/!.jpg

There are two interpretations for the colors of the tiles:
* if a tile is colored somebody who new this tracking tool has most
likely been mapping in this area (there are large mapped areas in Haiti
which are not (yet) tracked in this tool, though)
* the darker the green of the color the more complete is the mapping in
this tile

Note that there are huge differences in the level of detail and the
accuracy of the mapped tiles over the country, mainly because the
quality of the available imagery isn't homogeneous. DigitalGlobe imagery
around Jacmel can't be compared with Googles imagery available for PaP.

Regards
Karl
