[OSM-talk] How to clean tainted sources?

Hi,

I have through my work received a document with the positions and
references of all of Petrobras fixed installations, FPSO's,
mono-buoys, and movable rigs. The source itself is with all certainty
not open, though I have not contacted Petrobras E & P to ask for the
data to be freed for OSM. I doubt that this data will be freed that
easily.

The location of the movable rigs are not of much interest to a map,
these change a little too often to be any point in putting on a map
other than special interest maps, and Petrobras and all other oil
companies produce their own maps for such purposes.

On the other hand, I can over time derive the limit of oil fields from
these maps, and also I can pinpoint all the fixed installations. This
is information more of interest to the map.

But how can I get the information in this source cleaned? Can I for
example extract the WGS84 positions from AIS, radar plotting, optical
bearings? What can be included from the sources when I have external
data to rely on?

The positions in the source are UTM and Aratu projection (I know it
should be simple converting, but will not start until I know I can
have the source cleaned)

A
