WhereAmI is exactly what you are looking for. Did you follow the 
www.symbianos.org/whereamiusersguide ? A friend of mine successfully 
downloaded data from an asian country just two weeks ago.

You can select the data that you want to download beforehand using the 
handy map selector: www.symbianos.org/osmtileselector
