It IS a lot lower. The thaimap.osm-tools.org is running on a virtual 
machine. It has 1GB of guaranteed RAM and 2x2 GHz guaranteed CPU. 
neither load nor RAM seams to be a problem.

Maybe disk-io could be a problem in a shared environment.
