[coming back to this now that i've returned to Sunny Upstate NY:]
so should we be
1) adding explicit info to ways about town/county
or
2) fixing county & town boundary relations
and as follow up: most people doing lookups will be using postal addresses.
postal addresses frequently fail to match town boundaries and names
across the US. Biittig Road is in the Town of Sand Lake, but all the postal
addresses along it will be served by the Averill Park Post Office, zip
12018,
and the lookup that people will do is for Averill Park not for Sand Lake.
another followup: just where in the wiki is the tagging for town & county
names on highway ways documented? it's not on United States Road
Tagging.
someone else mentioned long postal codes in the US (i presume zip+4
postal codes are what is meant.) the likelyhood that anyone looking up,
say, "214 Biittig Road" knows the zip+4 is quite low. likewise, coming up
with the zip+4 code for addresses would be a pretty remarkable effort
level, i don't see this as a resolution.
