The version of BigTinCan Mapper I am using, BigTinCan Mapper Pro version 2.0.148, is a paid product. I purchased it directly from BigTinCan. Curiously, this version is only for sale directly from BigTinCan; the MobiPro App Store (for example' CrackBerry.com) is still selling version 1.0.95.
As I said, there is provision for requesting new POI types, and for refreshing the list of POI types, but I have seen no changes in the list of POI types that can be created by Mapper, in the nearly two years that I have been using the program.
Some months ago, I suggested to the BigTinCan developers that provision be made for adding a POI with only a name and location, with other tags to be added later, using a program such as JOSM or Potlatch. This would allow other types of POIs not directly supported by BigTinCan Mapper Pro. The developers replied that this sounded like a good idea, but have not added the feature.

To my knowledge, there is only one app for BlackBerry phones that lets you do editing, BigTinCan Mapper, and the only editing you can do is to upload GPS traces and to add certain preset types of POIs. The program has a means of requesting new POI types, but the product has apparently been abandoned by BigTinCan. No new POI types have been added in the two years that I have been using BigTinCan Mapper, and getting a reply from their tech support literally takes months of waiting.
It hasn't been abandoned, although there hasn't been much work done on
it lately, well none, mostly due to a lack of a business model
although that might be changing shortly, however we're working on
other paid stuff atm which takes precedent.
