Then many, many people will be burned. It's happening daily in OSM
when contributors remove buildings or roads traced from obsolete
aerial imagery or imported data for instance and are no longer
existing or replaced by something else "on the ground". It's never
done "for fun" but with the intent to have the most accurate and
up-to-date map data of the world. I'm talking here as a contributor
who doesn't want to edit dense areas with e.g. all buildings and roads
since Julius Caesar mixed and overlapping on my preferred editor, even
with filters. I've seen the wiki proposals about tagging ruins and
other historic features which are still present and that is perfectly
"legitimate".
I also understand why some people would like to use the OSM tools
chain to collect and display historical data but, as already
mentionned, it can be done into another database.
