[OSM-talk] NLSI releases a lot of data free of charge

Hi.

This week, the National Land Survey of Iceland released a huge amount of
data publically accessible free of charge. The general public and
companies have already started using the data and one company intends to
release a complete 3D map of Iceland, largely based on said data. The
license for the data is unfortunately incompatible with OSM's
Contributor's Terms at the moment but it's a work in progress which will
hopefully be solved quickly. When we are successful, which should happen
eventually, the Icelandic OSM community might need some tagging and
import help in the appropriate mailing lists.

You can see a news coverage (in Icelandic) in the link below which has a
graphic demonstration of a 3D map of Surtsey (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surtsey). The island is currently not
accessible to the public due to scientific research.
