The redaction doesn't matter for reconstructing old data - for pre-2007 
we're talking API v0.3 data or earlier, with segments.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KT13_Area.4.png is the oldest 
published map from OSM I know of, back in 2006.
