Sometime I think, it wolud be nice to start with developing of our own aplication for capturing of:
1. Aerial images
2. Terrain model information
3. 3D information about buildings
We have enoug knowdlege in the cloud to do it. What we need is one or 2 universities for staering the develepment and (probably) crowd funding for getting it open source.
I can write mockup for such solution.

In Iceland we have been looking longingly at the eBee https://www.sensefly.com/drones/ebee.html but so far haven't started fundraising for it.
Are there similarly sophisticated yet cheaper options around and currently in use?
Haven't flown any...yet, but think it has real possibilities to help map. Satellite imagery always seems out of date or cloud covered. Being able to capture new buildings using drones seem like a good fit. I have seen 3D modeling using images taken from quadcopters. The possibilities of what can be done with open source software are pretty amazing. We are going to have a demo of aerial imagery using kits at an upcoming OSM 10th Anniversary event in Seattle. That is weather permitting.
