Tokyo, Japan – The OpenStreetMap(OSM), the project that creates and distributes free geographic data for the world, was prized “Good Design Award 2014” organized by Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).
We started OSM because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive, or unexpected ways.
OSM wins the award especially for “Marvelous at global success and high quality geographic data with entirely-open license. Promising many application such as infrastructure for a disaster prevention and relief. “ as a result of gathering geographic information by mappers world wide and initiative with freedom of geographic data.
OpenStreetMap Foundation Japan, General Incorporated Association(OSMFJ), will promote a participation of mappings and utilizations of OSM in this opportunity. OSMFJ will also strongly promote a map design and a public participation for applications of OSM such as disaster relief.
The award is certainly an accomplishment of OpenStreetMap community, and the winner is just YOU, each of the Mappers.
