Sign, sign, everywhere a. sign.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:traffic_sign is very specific to
roads.
It would seem there is a need for:

posted_sign=Rip Tide Warning: May to July.  300 Swimmers were swept out out
to sea in the year 2014
posted_sign:ed=Warnung: von Mai bis Juli....
