Some parts of switch2osm could be updated after we make the overview of
these tools. For example:
https://switch2osm.org/serving-tiles/manually-building-a-tile-server-14-04/
could be split to essential part, generated straight from kind of
"official" Dockerfile (and at least linking to it), and tuning part,
which can't be automatically updated, but on the other hand it's
optional, targeted at more advanced users and shouldn't be changing too
fast.
Switching to such kind of (semi-automated) workflow would make keeping
the documentation up to date an easier job and allow users to deploy it
easily even on other Linux distributions or OS-es (through
virtualization tools). This is a good moment, since Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
alpha1 should be ready in a few days:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XenialXerus/ReleaseSchedule
so we have almost 4 months to prepare and test it before the final
Ubuntu 16.04 image release. We're not bound to this by any means
(especially since 14.04 will be still supported for next few years), but
of course it would be nice to stay close to the reality.
BTW: who is the maintainer of switch2osm site? I was not able to find
any contact informations there.
