I was using a few times official_ref for routes where the official ref has changed years ago, but the signs weren't updated at all (and ref for the signposted but deprecated ref).
old_ref for the former ref when there are still some old signs but also new ones out there (ref for the current ref in these cases).
int_ref should be used for international ref like the European E-network
unsigned_ref doesn't fit very nice with the other ref tags, logically.
