I would still be interested to hear from experts in the utility field as to what the original purpose of the lines were.  Since this is in the US, one case assume standard household voltage (given the size of the insulators and the fact that it terminiantes at an old house in ruins), which back in the day was 110.  In which case, there would be a considerably percentage voltage drop over the many km distnace this line spans.
