To help combat the spread, the various QA tools need to report about
these issues to increase their visibility, and editors need their
validators to report them where they don't do so already (e.g. JOSM
reports about type=multipolygon on ways). But because of the wide
variety of editors and varying levels of quality, that still won't
prevent the issues from being reintroduced. Mappers are free to ignore
the validator issues if they see them at all.

This kind of QA work is a never ending endeavor, be prepared to keep
fixing these issues if you want them gone permanently.
