[OSM-talk] Persian/Arabian Gulf Tagging

In the past months, we discussed the reasons for putting in Arabic for the Gulf, because most of the countries surrounding this water body (7 countries) adopt the Arabic name that corresponds to “On the Ground Rule”:

We also discussed other solutions that was suggested by members of the other communities, such as the A/B solution (the name in Arabic and Persian), which was agreed apone from all the Arabs around the Gulf region just to stop the vandalism that was accruing by some of Iranian vandalists. Deleting the name is not accepted by the communities surrounding the water body. For more:

Subject: Re: [OSM-talk] Persian/Arabian Gulf Tagging

Hello everyone.

Today, I went over the all past discussion and mails in this topic. As
far as I don't like to re-open this topic but I think it's needed.
Because:
1. Though the made discussions were not pointless, it didn't reach any closure
or any actions on the map.
2. As I checked the edits on the Gulf area, the edit-wars didn't fade
away after the posts nor it became less important to mappers.
3. Recently OSM carto tiles has been blocked in Iran by certain ISPs
because of the Gulf naming issue. It became painstakingly hard for Iranian
mappers to contribute.

As the majority of posts agreed upon removing the `name` tag on the Gulf
area, I think it's the best option to solve the disputes. So
I am going to do that.

Please do tell if you have any rejections or have a better solution to
this issue. But please read the previous made discussions prior to that.
