aerial/sat imagery is a medium used by some contributors,
aerial/sat imagery is not a purpose of contribution.
it's not a why, it's a "how"

OpenStreetMap have a geo-database.
OpenStreetMap have a wiki, to store/share/edit the doc.
but a "a wiki map" means nothing, you mix 2 thing.
feel free to go to www.openstreetmap.org and clid edit to see one
of the ways to edit geographic data, it's not a wiki-like edit.
wiki-style collaborative editing software is for the doc, not
for the map/geo-data

I do not doubt the scientific basis of the questions asked, but the
nonsense in the formulation makes me doubt the interest of the result.
asking someone if they like the colour "square"... that's a bit like
the "wiki map" questions
