Please.
Two years ago we had a problem, both the forum software and the software
for the help site was unmaintained and while not an immediate issue, it
was time to look for, evaluate and then migrate to a replacement.
The first two items have been done and the conclusion, for better or
worse, was to migrate to discourse as the new platform.
Naturally as with every IT project scope creep immediately happened,
mainly driven by people that don't think e-mail is modern enough, want
to have more tools to police other people and so on. Discourse supports
all of that and -potentially- all of that can be put in place if the
respective communities feel that is the right thing to do.
ONCE THE MIGRATION FROM THE OLD PLATFORMS HAS BEEN DONE.
With the current trajectory the project is on we are going to end up
simply with a further system and not solve the initial problem, or
perhaps better completely fail.
