An *intact* coastline is more important than a *recent* one - that's the 
crux of the matter. There was a time when the coastline would be 
automatically updated without checking, which made coastline fixing much 
more important because whole countries could get "flooded" while the 
coastline was broken.

Now we have a process that makes such breakage much less likely, at the 
cost of being much slower-moving because someone needs to manually "ok" 
large changes for the coastline process to consume them.

This sarcastic tone is not appropriate. You can use your free time as 
you see fit - as can others in the project.
