Thanks; I added a comment, pointing out that the constructive thing to
do would have been to comment on the original changeset.  I also
commented on the original changeset so that mapper would be aware that
their work had been deleted, instead of helpfully questioned.

OSM is supposed to be about working together to improve the map, and
this sort of deletionism does not qualify as working together.
