I downloaded all of the files in the Osmarender Subversion repository (see
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Osmarender/Howto#Download_the_software
) and there are a few scripts there for post-processing the svg file created by Osmarender. The one called osm-svg-beautifier.pl chooses to abbreviate or simply leave out the names of ways when they are very short.

It also uses bezier curves to smooth out the ways, making your maps look even nicer.

- Lachlan

On 8/6/07, Brent Easton <

The bridges are all seperate ways with bridge=yes, layer=1.

Osmarender is naming each short bridge section with the highway name and reference number and it looks just plain bad. Is there a tag to hint to the renderer to not display the name of a way?

I would prefer not to remove the name from the way as maplint/validator complains and it doesn't seem right. The same problem applies to roundabouts where Osmarender writes the highway name around the roundabout.
