Hello listers,
The list has been quiet for a while, but I want to assure you TeachOSM is
actively moving forward. Here's a quick update of what's been going on
along with some suggestions on how you can contribute/get involved:
1 TeachOSM Website - We launched the TeachOSM website a few months ago with
a smattering of case studies and how-tos pitched at educators incorporating
OSM into their classes. We're always looking for a) feedback on existing
materials, but also b) additional case studies based on your experiences.
2 TeachOSM working group - There is a small, but committed group that has
been steering the TeachOSM project. We've been meeting in person, mostly
for sprints to create web site content, but we do have a loose work plan
that includes all the other items listed in this note. If you'd like to be
a part of this working group, please let us know. We'll figure out a way to
make it happen.
3 Microcredentials - One of the items on our work plan is to develop
criteria for microcredentials, or a badge, based on OpenStreetMap skills.
Primarily designed for students in need of service learning hours and other
learning credentials, the badge requirements might stipulate contributions
to HOT, MissingMaps, or MapGive for completion, as well as serve as a
measure of quality control for those contributions.
4 OSM Summer Camp - The idea behind OSM Summer Camp is to provide a
half-day workshop, primarily for teachers/educators to teach them how to
organize a OSM-based group mapping event. We'd like to kick it off at
SotM-US15[2] in NYC in June, but that will depend on how the program shakes
out. I've also talked w/ some contacts associated with the National Council
of Geographic Educators (NCGE)[3] and it's possible that we'd hold a
workshop in conjunction with their conference in Aug '15. If you'd like to
contribute materials or conduct a workshop, please let us know.
5 Contribute! - We welcome your involvement to make TeachOSM both a vibrant
community and a comprehensive resource for expanding the use of OSM as a
teaching resource. Contribute a case study, contribute a how-to, conduct a
workshop in your area, conduct outreach to teachers. If you're comfortable
working with Github, you can fork our repo[4] and issue a pull request. If
not, please contact me offline and I'll be happy to assist.

incomplete data.
