Hi listers,

The list has been quiet for a while, but that doesn't mean nothing is
happening. Thanks to Nuala & Richard at GWU for hosting an in-person
meeting to kick off a strategic planning process for TeachOSM. The
objective is to develop a plan for the next 3-6 months. Most of the detail
is on the Hackpad[1], which is open for you to add your thoughts, comments,
and suggestions.

I'll group the highlights of the discussion into four loose themes:
*1. Putting TeachOSM on firmer organizational footing:* Several options
were discussed, but key here is a functional presence to be able to make
decisions to carry out the TeachOSM mission. Meaning we'll want to either
aim to organize under an existing 501(c)3 or qualifying institution or
organize as a stand-alone organization. We're entertaining several options
and if you have suggestions, please add them to the Hackpad or contact me
offline.

*2. Maintenance and improvements to the TeachOSM web site: *GWU may be able
to offer help in the form of a student intern for maintaining the TeachOSM
website. But this is an area where we could use additional help.

*3. Events/projects/programs:* OSMGeoweek[2] is fast approaching (15-21
Nov). We had a great event last year with multiple events worldwide, so
please submit your projects soon, especially classroom/training projects.
There are other projects/programs listed on the Hackpad.

*4. Developing a communications plan:* For starters, I just created a
TeachOSM Twitter account[3] for...well, communicating about TeachOSM. But
there is still much work to be done to define key educational and
institutional audiences and devising tactics to reach these groups.

We could use help in each of these four areas. I'll ask each of you to
please consider where you can plug and best make a contribution. If you
need more information, please let me know. Thanks!

There are two types of people in the world. Those that can extrapolate from
incomplete data.
