Got it. Thanks. I was having them examine Google Earth to compare imagery, etc. However I will take it out

Thanks

Tom

Thanks for sharing, Tom.

It looks good on first glance. However, in step 3E the student is directed to use Google Earth, which is a fine tool but might cause issues with copyrighted data. One of the cardinal rules of OpenStreetMap is that copying from Google Maps/Earth/anything is expressly forbidden and I worry about a context that pairs Google with OSM in an audience unfamiliar with the ramifications.

An alternate I might suggest is encouraging the students to use the iD editor to examine their particular neighborhood. It would help them learn how to navigate the iD toolset and therefore, contribute to a better mapping experience, more likely to become a contributing member of community, etc, etc.

Cheers,

Hello

I am working on an assignment sheet for my GEO 100 level course. It is an freshman level course with about 100 students. I have talked to several people and they have given me insight. I now wanted to share it with the listserv and request any comments, suggestions, etc.

Thanks

Tom Mueller
