I have a few things on my to-do or want to see done list that I'd be
interested in working on at the SOTM-US hack day on Monday that relate to
tile serving
1. switch2osm tile server guide rewrite
I want to get this damn thing finished. I've had a mostly rewritten guide
for months now, it just needs polishing and the last parts finishing. If we
have some non-coders there, this would be a task they could help with.
2. openstreetmap-carto
I'm not a cartographer, but there's a number of areas that would benefit
from working on and group feedback. I want to work on shops myself.
Andy, do you think you'd be able to merge some of the PRs that don't add
features?
3. New .style file for use with hstore
It should be possible to write a style file for use with hstore that
improves performance. Unfortunately, the naive method of using the german
.style and views to make it look like the normal .style is a significant
performance decrease.
The query-rewriting for openstreetmap-carto to best make use of such a style
is... significant.
4. osm2pgsql threading
There's just a minor index creation issue then osm2pgsql threading should be
okay to merge. This contains significant performance enhancements, not just
the threading, but also proper clustering
5. osm2pgsql in-place database reloads
It needs to be easier to update an osm2pgsql by means of a new import.
Any other thoughts? Anyone who's going to be there interested in these
projects?
