I think the crash problem is still valid with the build from https://vanguard.houghtonassociates.com/browse/OSM-OSM2PSQL-76.
The command
osm2pgsql.exe -H localhost -d gisdb -U postgres -s -P 5432 -S ./default.style -k --create --unlogged --cache-strategy sparse -C 600 africa-latest.osm.pbf
fails by exiting the import while processing the relations, and the PG log is similar to the one of anothergisblogsamples, only difference is the line numbers. Environment: Windows 32bit, 4GB memory.
But, I tested, and was able to import successfully several other OSM extracts, such as German, whose osm.pbf file size is far much bigger file than of Africa.
I tried also the most recent build (#78) for importing the extract of Africa with the same crashing result.
