There's nothing wrong with what you've shown. osm2pgsql needs options, which are described in the commands you gave it. If you need more information, [usage.md](https://github.com/openstreetmap/osm2pgsql/blob/master/docs/usage.md) might help, as well as the tutorial at [switch2osm](https://switch2osm.org/loading-osm-data/)
