NB: if you don't care about updating the data, may I kindly suggest that you have a look at the new [export to postgres](https://docs.osmcode.org/osmium/master/osmium-export.html) function in osmium-tool. This might be doing exactly what you want using only a fraction of the resources that osm2pgsql normally needs.
