I've seen people using some ridiculously large offsets to handle custom data, which sometimes triggers unexpected issues for some tools (e.g. see [this post](https://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/273204/what-is-the-max-value-for-node-ids-in-overpass)). Working with carefully chosen positive offsets should work in general, but requires careful end-to-end testing.
