[Tile-serving] Convert PNG tiles to mod_tile metatiles

Hi,

We received a set of PNG tiles and are considering to serve them using
apache/mod_tile, instead of using "traditional" web folders.

Is there a way to convert PNG files into mod_tile metatiles, as
described in the struct here [1] ?

I do agree that in the "pros" and "cons", the "pros" for serving the
files as "traditional web folder is", until know, greater :-)
