In the standalone view, the road grid even where correct served as
orientation, and served me well.

If our discs do not have enough space for a proper, usable Maplint
layer, then let's kick it altogether. It may use less space as it is
now, but it is competely useless, so this actually wastes the space
it occupies, while the previous version could be used for debugging.

Let's please find something else for a 'nice test case'. I really
want people to use the Maplint layer for debugging, not for
experimenting, or for nice looks.

I can't believe you are suggesting that. It was good the way it was
before, you could easily see all you needed to see! And now you're
telling me to wildly switch layers to have a chance to see something
that was in plain view before? Hardly a "major improvement"!

Might be an option, but I'm all for scapping transparent altogehter.
No white-washed background layer will ever be as good as the simple,
grey-line-for-each-road backdrop that Maplint had before.

I did complain here because I felt it might bec onsidered impolite to
just revert the changes in SVN but if I can do that without starting
an edit war, I certainly will.
