Yes. This has been proposed before and sounds like a very good idea.  
I was planning to implement that as soon as I got my hands on the  
server but I haven been able to get my hands on the server yet.

I could of course modify the PHP and write the daemon and then ask  
OJW to install it, but this modus operandi has rarely worked in the  
past (because I don't know the exact environment of the dev server I  
cannot provide code that will just run as-is, and for OJW it is a lot  
more work to install someone else's code and see that it works than  
it is for the one who wrote it).

So I'm waiting. Which doesn't get things done obviously.
