Interesting data, thhanks. That performance hit might not be that big,
as those recursive lookups would happen in areas where there is only
blank land/sea around. So if you happen to scroll at z17 across the
pacific ocean (or the sibirian taiga) you have other problems than
slowness of retrieving z17 tiles. :-)
